Free Agency 2013: Bucks closing in on deal with Gary Neal

According to a report from ESPN's Marc Stein, the Milwaukee Bucks are close to an agreement with former San Antonio Spurs guard Gary Neal. Neal entered the offseason as a restricted free agent for the Spurs, but his qualifying offer was withdrawn after the team signed Marco Belinelli. As an unrestricted free agent, Neal was reportedly drawing interest from the both the Bucks and the Atlanta Hawks.

In three seasons with the Spurs, Neal averaged 9.7 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game while shooting just under 40% from the three-point line. He was excellent from deep (41.9%) in his first two years before falling off a bit (35.5%) last season. Neal has a reputation as a gunner, a mold of player the Bucks are all two familiar with, but his generally solid accuracy from behind the arc has typically made up for a happy trigger-finger. He's also not going to play as big a role as Brandon Jennings or Monta Ellis ever did for the Bucks, so the possible damage should be capped.

Defensively, Neal brings some of the same concerns as those that plagued Ellis. He's got combo guard size, so it's hard to figure out exactly who to match him up on, and while he can lock in one-on-one and hold his own, he's prone to blatant lapses that get his team burned. All told, the Spurs were about 4 points/100 possessions better on defense with Neal riding the pine. Milwaukee is pretty familiar with handling this sort of player, and their Larry Sanders-anchored defense has already shown itself to be modestly up to the task, so it's a workable situation at the least. Still, it's going to require a lot of management from the coaching staff to keep the Bucks' bench from collapsing on that end.

Neal offers more depth off the bench to a mostly-filled backcourt (save for one particular spot) that has a starting SG in place, a capable backup point guard, and a rookie combo guard looking to prove himself. As an instant-offense player for the second-unit, one could do much worse. Neal's had his heroic moments, but in general he's been consistently...well, exactly what you'd expect from a mid-summer acquisition by the Bucks.

Early reports didn't speculate on possible terms for the deal. The Bucks still have their room exception available, but that would limit Neal to a two-year deal beginning at just under $2.6 million. If he wants more than that, the Bucks will have to eat into their cap space to ink him.

不過,今年B, C 級的後衛,前鋒市場行情普遍都不好啊....連Jarreet Jack都只能簽到600/yr,我本來還認為他可以媲美離開太陽的Joe Johnson簽張千萬合約的

我料 Gary Neal 預計擔任 O.J. Mayo 的替補。
此外，Brandon Jennings 的合約還沒定案，不曉得會不會有什麼特殊原因。

目前公鹿的球員名單，Luke Ridnour 也有份量和資格擔任主控，Gary Neal 一來也可以擔任替補控衛，
形勢上，會不會使得公鹿壓低  Jennings 的薪資，就不得而知了?

公鹿在新一季大改版，Luke Ridnour 、O.J. Mayo、Gary Neal、Carlos Delfino 與 Zaza Pachulia 紛紛
來到，好在，Ridnour、Delfino 與  Pachulia 這些老江湖過去都待過公鹿，不算陌生。

新一季的公鹿弱點應該會是禁區，單靠爆發的中鋒  Larry Sanders 是不夠的，John Henson 和 Ekpe Udoh
也都必須加入戰局才行。雖然簽下 Miroslav Raduljica ，卻又捨棄 Gustavo Ayon，搞什麼鬼也不知道 ? 

在我看，Gary Neal  在馬刺的常勝經驗，應該是公鹿季外補強的最大收穫。
Larry Drew 要是搞不定 Brandon Jennings ，應該也不必多擔心。

問題是Gary Neal不會控球啊.....,給他作控衛最基本的運球過半場都有點抖.他只能打SG,但他的身材打先發SG是偏矮的,加上橫向移位速度偏慢,體型偏瘦弱,他上場基本上就是個防守漏洞.馬刺從沒讓他打Backup PG,基本上是把他當Backup SG,他很適應SPURS SG的戰術跑位 ex.底線擋人跑位,外線空檔射籃,..偶爾自己還能帶球突破,但他的突破偏向SG踩第一步過人,並不是靠運球技術純熟過人.

至於 Wade.....Neal連他的1/5爆發力跟移動性都沒有,只有身高能比而已.拿Wade跟Neal比實在懶X比雞腿.我是馬刺迷,我必須說以現在球隊陣容放走Neal是無情但正確的決定

不會控球應該沒什麼關係吧

再者..公鹿也知道他不會控球

簽他只是個替補 他場上只要任務就是得分

控球不就交給隊上控球後衛不就好囉
