Warriors' Reggie Williams says he'll play in Spain
Rusty Simmons, Chronicle Staff Writer
Warriors restricted free-agent swingman Reggie Williams used his
Twitter account Monday to confirm reports that he had signed a deal to
play with Caja Laboral Vitoria of the Spanish ACB League.
Williams is the first Warriors player to sign an international deal
during the NBA's lockout. Stephen Curry and Dorell Wright have expressed
interest in playing overseas, and agent Bill Duffy said Saturday that
Andris Biedrins will start exploring offers next month.
Williams' one-year, $1.5 million contract was initially reported by
Yahoo Sports. He would have to pay a $1 million buyout if he wants to
return to the NBA this season.
The second-year player averaged 9.2 points in 20 minutes a game in 2010-11. The Warriors tendered him a qualifying offer in June, assuring them the option of matching any NBA team's free-agent offer.
Williams, who made $760,000 last season, previously said he wasn't
interested in playing overseas. Before being plucked out of the NBA
Development League by the Warriors, he played in France and says he
wasn't paid in full.
