Yahoo Sports reports and the Houston Chronicle confirms that free-agent forward Omri Casspi has agreed to a two-year deal with the Houston Rockets. The Chronicle reports the deal is for the veteran minimum at $2 million total with a team option for 2014-2015.
The Rockets are obviously shopping the bargain bin to add players around Dwight Howard. They have, of course, limited space between Howard and James Harden. The Rockets also added Francisco Garcia on Saturday.
Casspi has bounced around after being taken as the first Israeli-born NBA player to be selected in the first round by the Kings in 2009. Casspi was notably unhappy in Cleveland but could never reach an out with the team. The Rockets badly need small forward help and Casspi has shown to have some success in more spread-out systems. At the veteran minimum, he's just filler and there's little downside to the signing.
