$60 for 2nd Place Season.

Just my 2 cents... 1. in real life, obviously playoff is what counts. - Yes, but our play-off is NBA's final 4 weeks of regular season. And some games doesn't count (like what you says about Spurs). 2. it's more exciting. Anything can happen in single elimination. - Yap. Now it's more exciting cause you have to fight both regular seasons and playoff, (not like you wouldn't before.) 3. What's the highest honor (non-monetary) in this league? Regular season winner or eventual league winner? We should align monetary with honorary awards :) - Play-off winner of course. That's why the 1st place winner wins play-off will get most $$. So work hard on both regular season and playoff. I think it's fair to give regular season winner some percentages. I just feel the playoff should be given a lot more weight. - I understand, that's why the highest honor play-off winner will get $90 which is about 28% of the prize pool ON TOP of what he alreay wins. BTW, I hope we can resolve this by tonight one way or the other before the draft. This definitely affects how I draft. (for example, I never draft anyone from the spurs since they always don't have to play starters during our playoff time, but if the rule changes, I need to prepare differently.) - I would like it to be resolved before draft too. But with such a short notice, it would be better to decide before the season starts. That's why I make the deadline 10/29 before season starts. I would suggest you to prepare both senarios. Draft the best team possiable.

I think the argument comes down to which we think is more important, playoff or regular season. I feel the playoff is more important because : 1. in real life, obviously playoff is what counts. 2. it's more exciting. Anything can happen in single elimination. 3. Actually, the main problem I have right now is not really the breakdown, but how this is being handled. 1. Just because someone suggests something, and commish happens to agree with it, all the sudden we are now going to make changes right before the draft. This does affect how players will be drafted. For example, I might draft Wade No.1 thinking I can afford playing without him for a month or two. But now because of the change, I probably won't draft him. 2. I don't think Commish should assume people don't mind if they don't veto. Because of the short notice, a lot of people will not have enough time to respond in a timely fasion. -Jim

Lei, you got it. And that's what I want to accomplish. I want to increase the fun and excitment during regular season, and they will MEAN something ($$). And the get reward of getting the bye 1st week, so it really doesn't hurt their chance to win the playoff. This structure will makes it feel like you have two playoff. Things can happen during the final two weeks of regular season and the top 2~3 teams may flip-flop. Unlike sometimes top two teams secure their playoff position and they just tank for one or two week. Or a manager don't want to be 3rd and tank to drop to 4th or 5th. This way, you want to get best record all the way. Difference between Roto and H2H to me is H2H you get a win/loss every week. You're fighting different team every week. Roto is the long similar process to strike for the goal. I think this pay-out structure will brings more out of H2H because you have to compete more.

Wuman, I see what you mean. You are saying the Mavericks should be applauded more. :) Just kidding. I still feel that regular season winners are getting rewarded enough already. (top 2 with a bye week, and number 3 gets a weak opponent) It only takes one win for the top 2 to get into the final. By moving rewards to the regular season, this takes away the thrill of H2H playoff. (I thought rotisseri is the game type where you take into account the whole season)

I think the most important change to this new pay-out structure is the "regular" season winner takes most $$. This reward the hard work for the whole season. It sucks that you get the 1st place in the season and your best players get hurt in the play-off. Yap, shit happens. But I think this reduce the "luck" factor a bit more. I think for consolation bracket winner to get his money back is okay. 5% * $320 = $16 ~ $20. This way both bracket managers still have some motivation to fight. Yah, I know it will suck if you end up 4~6. But at least you have a chance to fight for 1st.

I see on the league forum that this new proposal was supposed to lead to less "dead managers". I don't see how this could be achieved with this proposal. Dead managers happen because people don't think they can get into the playoffs. If they don't think they can get into the playoffs, how would they feel about their chances of getting into top 3? I would guess even less. If we truly want to promote higher competition, maybe get a 5% reward to the consolation bracket winner. I don't have a problem with that, though it's kind of spooky.

In real NBA, teams would still take Shaq in a heartbeat... would anyone take Shaq here in Fantansy NBA? However, this new distribution puts so little emphasis on winning the whole thing that it just doesn't make sense. It's like in the real NBA, who cares if you win the regular season if you don't bring home the trophy. Besides, a lot of us draft with playoff in mind that we draft the appropriate players so that they won't be sitting during playoff time. (I know I do) I would propose a similar distribution to the top 3 playoff finishers and give a proportion to regular season winner. Something like: Playoff 1st: 60 Playoff 2nd: 15 Playoff 3rd: 10 Regular season 1st: 15

Again, I agree we should award the regular season winner. But the proposed breakdown is just too much. I don't think this will necessarily make the regular season more competitive, but will definitely make the playoff less competitive for sure. Besides, in NBA, there is NO award for regular season winner!!!! -Jim

I like the change. This is how we structure in another league. It is way harder to maintain good standings during regular season because of injuries or whatever. However, in playoffs a team could choke because the coach decides to shut down certain star players to save them for real NBA playoffs or they don't even have the chance to make NBA playoffs... while playoff winner should be awarded but I think regular season winner should be awarded higher... I vote yes for the change ~

I have actually never seen that happen.  Obviously it could happen, but probably only during the last week of regular season and under very tricky situations.  I might even say this is part of the strategic fun part. :)  If people are juggling for position this way, I wouldn't call this less competitive, I would call this more competitive because now you are using the smarts to get further in playoff.

Yap,  It happened.  And it was someone you know that was the smart ass.  I had to say it was a good strategy under the rules.  But just like NBA teams try to loss to get better match up or better draft pick, it's just not the most proud thing to do.  So, fight hard all they way.  And I have confidence in you (actually, I have too much confidence in you. I do think you're one of the best fantasy NBA managers.)
