DeMarre Carroll agrees to contract with Raptors
Small forward DeMarre Carroll has agreed to join the Toronto Raptors on a four-year, $60 million deal, a person with knowledge of the situation told USA TODAY Sports.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because deals can't be finalized until the free agency moratorium lifts on July 9.
The 28-year-old Carroll took his career to a new level the past two seasons with the Atlanta Hawks, gaining respect as one of the best perimeter defenders around while becoming a reliable offensive option.
Last season, as the Hawks finished atop the Eastern Conference with a 60-22 record before being swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the conference finals, Carroll averaged 12.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Carroll announced his decision to sign with Toronto via Twitter, saying "#WeTheNorth I will be playing for the Toronto Raptors next year!!!! I'm blessed for this opportunity!"
Carroll was being courted by several teams, but the Raptors were the first team he met with in free agency and, as it turns out, the only one.
